Togo Launches Open Data Platforms to Boost Access to Public Information

The Togolese government has launched two platforms, Open Data and Geoportail Open Data, to improve access to vital public information.

These platforms provide essential data on health, agriculture, education, and infrastructure to support research and planning.

The Open Data portal focuses on offering critical insights into different sectors. For example, its health section contains information on health indicators and global challenges.

In agriculture, the platform highlights rural development and food security issues. Additionally, it features data on education, showcasing human development and other significant indicators.

Geoportail Offers Geospatial Insights

The Geoportail Open Data platform provides detailed geospatial data about Togo’s social and economic infrastructure. This data allows users to explore maps, study development trends, and analyze spatial information.

The geospatial data was initially collected in 2022. It is regularly updated by government agencies to ensure its accuracy. The platform also allows users to download information for their research or development projects.

According to a government spokesperson, the platforms aim to increase transparency and encourage informed decision-making. “We believe in empowering citizens and researchers through open access to data. It’s a step towards greater accountability,” they said.

A Tool for Development and Planning

Both platforms serve as essential tools for decision-makers, researchers, and planners. They offer reliable data to address pressing issues like public health and rural development.

The platforms also make it easier for citizens to access information about their communities. For example, farmers can explore agricultural data to improve productivity. Educators can use education data to identify areas needing more resources.

These efforts align with Togo’s vision for inclusive and sustainable development. By providing open access to data, the government hopes to foster innovation and growth.

The platforms are available online, ensuring easy access for users across the country and beyond.
