Nine African startups have been featured on the 2024 Impact/100 list, highlighting Africa’s innovation in addressing global challenges.
The list, created by the Norrsken Foundation, showcases 100 promising startups committed to solving future global issues.
These nine African companies were selected from over 1,200 competitors. They represent sectors such as FinTech, HealthTech, and FoodTech. The Impact/100 recognition emphasizes Africa’s role in tackling key global issues, from sustainability to financial inclusion.
Filip Lovstrom, CEO of Roam, one of the featured startups, expressed excitement about the inclusion. “It’s fuel for our mission to change how Africa moves,” he said.
Roam, a Kenyan electric vehicle manufacturer, focuses on making electric mobility accessible across Africa. Lovstrom said, “We push boundaries, make electric mobility a reality, and transform everyday journeys into a statement for sustainability.”

Driving Innovation Across Africa
The Impact/100 list recognizes Roam for providing clean and affordable transportation, supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

- Shara (Kenya): This FinTech startup focuses on financial access for Africa’s unbanked population, offering innovative solutions to overcome financial barriers.
- Rology (Egypt): A HealthTech company using AI to provide remote medical diagnostics, helping address the shortage of radiologists in emerging markets.
- Credrails (Kenya): A FinTech firm offering an open financial platform that helps businesses and consumers access financial data easily.
- Kapu (Kenya): A FoodTech startup revolutionizing access to affordable food for low-income communities by optimizing supply chains.
- Bamboo (Nigeria): A FinTech platform enabling Africans to invest in US stocks, democratizing access to international markets.
- Autochek (Nigeria): This startup simplifies vehicle ownership and maintenance through a digital platform, recently expanding into electric cars.
- Orca Fraud (South Africa): A FinTech company using AI to prevent fraud in real-time, protecting businesses and consumers from financial threats.
- African Management Institute (AMI) (Kenya): An education-focused startup offering practical business training to entrepreneurs across Africa.
