Nigeria Police Cybercrime Unit Named Africa’s Best by INTERPOL

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has won Africa’s Best Cybercrime Unit in 2024. INTERPOL’s Cybercrime Directorate in Singapore presented the award.

The National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) is now Africa’s leader in fighting digital fraud. This recognition places it ahead of cybercrime units from 54 African countries.

In 2024, the NPF-NCCC achieved remarkable results. It recovered ₦8.82 billion, 115,237.91 USDT, and $84,000 USD from cybercrime cases. The unit returned the funds to victims, ensuring justice and restoring trust.

Record Arrests and Asset Seizures

The cybercrime center arrested 751 individuals involved in digital crimes. It also seized 685 electronic devices, including phones, laptops, and servers. Other assets like houses, vehicles, and land linked to criminal networks were also confiscated.

According to INTERPOL, “The award recognizes the NPF-NCCC’s innovative approaches, strategic enforcement, and its role in advancing cybersecurity in Africa.”

The NPF-NCCC disrupted criminal operations and dismantled networks. It recovered stolen assets and crippled the infrastructure supporting digital crimes. This achievement highlights Nigeria’s leadership in the global fight against cybercrime.
