Kenya Wins Bid to Host 2024 Transform Africa Summit

Kenya has been chosen to host the 2024 Transform Africa Summit (TAS), organized by the Smart Africa Alliance.

The Smart Africa Alliance works for ICT development in Africa, bringing together leaders to accelerate digital transformation.

The announcement was made during the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Eliud Owalo, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, said the win reflects Kenya’s leadership in ICT.

‘‘This win is testament to the confidence that the Smart Africa Alliance has on Kenya as an ICT powerhouse, and a leader in championing the region’s efforts to leverage the power of ICTs for socio-economic development.

‘‘We accept this win with utmost humility and joy. It marks the beginning of a great journey ahead that will culminate in the hosting of the event in August this year,’’ Owalo said.

He also thanked the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) led by Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani and the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) for their hard work in securing Kenya’s win.

Ms. Mary Mungai, CA Board Chairperson, mentioned hosting the event would let them talk about sustainable digital economy in Africa.

‘‘Hosting this event provides us with a front row experience on the future of digital transformation efforts on the continent.

“Additionally, it shows how we must work across borders to forge a sustainable digital economy in the region,’’ she stated.

This is the first time Kenya will host the event in the 10-year history of the Smart Africa Alliance.

Mr. David Mugonyi, the CA Director General, says they will use this opportunity to learn from others in the region and tackle challenges in ICT.

‘‘Hosting our peers from the region provides us with an opportunity to share experiences and best practices.

“It also helps us forge a common and united front in leveraging ICTs for the development of our economies,’’ said Mr. Mugonyi.

The 2024 Transform Africa Summit will be running from August 20th to 30th in Nairobi.

The CA Board Chairperson Ms. Mary Mungai, Director General Mr. David Mugonyi, and others will join the Cabinet Secretary.

The Transform Africa Summit is an annual event by the Smart Africa Alliance. It gathers leaders to discuss Africa’s digital revolution.

Over 5,000 delegates from Africa and beyond attend the TAS to shape Africa’s digital future.
