A New Global Connectivity Hub
Located in Salalah, SN1 offers reduced latency and improved network resilience. The facility connects directly to Equinix’s MC1 data center in Muscat.
It will help carriers, hyperscalers, content providers, and cloud service providers enhance their operations in the region. SN1’s strategic location optimizes important connections between Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia. This will improve connectivity for businesses across four continents.
Kamel Al-Tawil, Managing Director of Equinix for the MENA region, said, “We are delighted to inaugurate our latest strategic data center. This showcases our investment in Oman and the wider Middle East.”
“With extension to multiple subsea cables, this new hub in Salalah will transform global connectivity across different continents and aligns perfectly with our strategy of creating network-dense, highly interconnected ecosystems globally.”
Omantel, a regional leader in telecom and technology, has been a crucial partner in this project. “Today, we are announcing another major milestone through our partnership with Equinix.
The launch of the SN1 data center is a cornerstone of our strategy to create a global connectivity hub in Salalah,” said Talal Al Mamari, CEO of Omantel. “By next year, we plan to land multiple subsea cables in Salalah, solidifying its status as one of the most connected hubs in the region.”
Equinix’s new facility is a key part of a broader effort to boost international connectivity. The project strengthens Oman’s position as a key player in the global data infrastructure market.
