Egypt has signed agreements for the second phase of 5G licenses with three major mobile operators: Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, and e& Egypt. The move aims to boost 5G services, improve communication quality, and expand the country’s network capacity.
The agreements are expected to raise the country’s mobile services to a new level. Amr Talaat, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, emphasized their readiness to offer the latest 5G technologies. He said this step would “contribute to service improvement and enhance mobile network capacity.”
The government raised $675 million from selling 5G licenses to Vodafone, Orange, e&, and Telecom. The four operators will collaborate to ensure the smooth rollout of 5G services nationwide.

Telecom Egypt Leads the Way
In January 2024, Telecom Egypt became the first operator to receive a 5G license. It paid $150 million for a 15-year license. The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) awarded the license, which will expire without automatic renewal.
The company will launch the country’s first 5G network later this year. It has partnered with Nokia to provide the necessary equipment for the deployment. Services will start in selected cities using Nokia’s 5G radio access network (RAN) technology.
The government’s digital transformation plan, “Digital Egypt,” is central to the country’s Vision 2030 strategy. the country aims to become a fully digital society. The 5G expansion is seen as crucial to developing smart cities, logistics, healthcare, and agriculture sectors.
The Minister added, “This move is vital for the country to provide advanced technological services to its citizens.”
With a mobile phone penetration rate of 95% and over 100 million subscriptions, Egypt is focusing on its digital future. The 5G rollout will further support the nation’s shift toward digitalization.
The collaboration between the four telecom companies is crucial for continuous service development. It will enhance services for citizens and contribute to their economic growth, especially in the information technology sector.
