The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has partnered with Monacosat to improve internet access through a satellite telecommunications project.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital (PTN), Augustin Kibassa Maliba, and Monacosat in Monaco.
This collaboration aims to reduce the digital divide in DRC, especially in rural areas. Satellite capacity from Monacosat will help provide nationwide internet coverage. The project focuses on improving access to education, healthcare, and digitizing public services.
Minister Kibassa stated, “We promise to implement everything and work as it should to get out of the concrete.” He also announced a working team would ensure follow-up and successful implementation.

A Game-Changer for Rural Connectivity in DRC
DRC’s large rural population has limited internet access due to a lack of fiber optic infrastructure. Satellite internet offers nationwide coverage. This project will also boost economic development by promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.
The geostrategic position of DRC in Central Africa allows the country to offer satellite capabilities to its neighbors. Monacosat expressed satisfaction, saying the project could contribute to the development of both DRC and Africa.
Minister Kibassa said, “This project will improve access to information and communication technologies, especially in health and education fields.”
Satellite internet will help students access educational resources and improve healthcare services through telemedicine. It will also enable citizens to participate in public life and promote human rights.
The DRC faces challenges in deploying a 50,000-kilometer national backbone due to low investment. This project aims to address those gaps while fostering growth.
