In a significant step to support education, Debswana’s Orapa, Letlhakane, and Damtshaa Mines , OLDM recently donated school supplies to Motsumi Junior Secondary School in Letlhakane.
The donation included 276 tables, chairs, and 97 blankets, valued at BWP 250,000 (USD 20,000). This contribution is part of Debswana’s commitment to improving education in the Boteti District.
Debswana has made a strong push to support educational development in the region. The company is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4. This goal aims to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all.

Contribution Aims to Improve Learning Conditions in Boteti District Schools
Earlier this year, Debswana also supported other schools. In January, OLDM employees and Business Partners donated mattresses, sanitary towels, and modems to Makalamabedi Junior Secondary School. In March, they provided sanitary supplies and built a recreational park in Xere Village. Additionally, they donated to Toromoja Village and Mmea Primary School.
The recent donation at Motsumi Junior Secondary School aims to improve learning conditions. Debswana is working to address shortages of school furniture and bedding, which hinder student learning. Mr. Kobamelo Kgoboko, Managing Director of CPP Botswana, emphasized the impact of this donation. “These contributions will improve the learning environment and boost student morale,” he said.
Headteacher of Motsumi Junior Secondary School, Mr. Godfrey Shabane, expressed his gratitude. “The contributions will play a crucial role in improving the school’s facilities and learning experience.”
The Boteti District Council Deputy Chairman, Hon. Pelonomi Thekiso, also thanked Debswana. She praised the company for its commitment to educational growth and community empowerment in the district.
Debswana’s efforts are not just about addressing immediate needs but also about contributing to the long-term development of education in Botswana. Through these donations, the company is creating a better learning environment for students in the Boteti region.
