The African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA Secretariat has launched the 2025 Digital Innovation Challenge. This initiative seeks young African entrepreneurs to develop scalable digital solutions for cross-border trade barriers affecting MSMEs.
The challenge targets African innovators and entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35. Individuals, teams, startups, and enterprises at the ideation, prototype, operational, or scaling phase can apply.
The AfCFTA Secretariat stated, “We are looking for bold, scalable, and innovative digital solutions that can enhance intra-African trade and unlock opportunities under the AfCFTA.”

Digital Solutions to Address Trade Barriers
Applicants should propose solutions in areas like market intelligence, e-commerce, logistics, digital financial services, trade facilitation, and entrepreneurial skills development. Solutions could include B2B/B2C platforms, fintech innovations, trade data tools, and digital training platforms.
The challenge aims to empower MSMEs by providing access to digital tools for seamless trade, logistics, payments, and mentorship. It also seeks solutions for warehousing, last-mile delivery, and professional services across borders.
Applicants must address one or more of the following areas:

- E-Commerce & Logistics
- Cross-Border Professional Services
- Digital Financial Services
- Trade & Investment Facilitation
- Entrepreneurial Skills Development
