Omantel and Innotech Create Artificial Reefs to Boost Fish Populations

Omantel has partnered with the Omani startup Innotech to help increase fish populations in the sea. They aim to create artificial reefs using advanced 3D concrete printing technology.

This technology allows for detailed and customized reef structures which will provide important habitats for marine life, including fish and other sea creatures.

The collaboration will focus on printing and deploying eight 3D concrete reef units. These units will be placed in a location near Muscat, which will be decided later.

The artificial reefs will offer various features such as crevices, caves, and ledges. These structures are designed to provide shelter and feeding grounds for fish. By doing this, the initiative aims to support marine biodiversity and promote sustainable fishing practices.

The project also aims to boost local fisheries and support the local economy. Artificial reefs are known to help restore and conserve marine environments.

Researchers will study how marine organisms interact with these new reefs and their impact on the ecosystem. This project will not only help the environment but also create new economic opportunities, including for tourism-related businesses.

A New Era in Marine Conservation and Technological Innovation

In his remarks, Omantel’s Chief Commercial Officer, Eng. Aladdin Bait Fadhil, highlighted the importance of this project. He said, “The depleting fish populations in the sea are a matter of concern all over the world.

“At Omantel, we are acutely aware of this situation and have therefore decided to partner with Innotech to support this initiative to boost fish yield by creating artificial reefs.

“Innotech’s 3D concrete printing solution offers unprecedented benefits and we are confident that mutual concerted efforts from both sides will help us achieve the goals we have set. Supporting environmental initiatives has always been a main driver to our CSR strategy.

Innotech is a fully Omani startup employing local graduates and engineers. They have developed Oman’s first locally manufactured 3D concrete printer and have patented this technology. The startup focuses on modern technologies and has made significant advancements in 3D printing.

3D concrete printing is a form of additive manufacturing. It allows for the creation of complex building components and structures that traditional methods cannot achieve. This technology will be crucial in designing and implementing the artificial reefs.

Omantel is also well-known for its leadership in telecommunications and digital technology in Oman. The company aims to deliver exceptional experiences and exceed customer expectations.

By investing in new technologies and solutions, Omantel supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040. This includes advancements in ICT, AI, cloud solutions, and more.
