Dubai’s Hala Expands into Egypt, First Move Beyond UAE

Hala, a Dubai-based e-hailing service, is entering Egypt through a partnership with MwaslaTech. The companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Hala plans to explore opportunities in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital (NAC) and other cities.

This expansion marks Hala’s first move outside the UAE. Hala aims to introduce innovative solutions and use advanced technologies to enhance customer travel experiences in Egypt.

Hala was launched in 2019, and currently operates in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah. Early this year, the company saw a 20% increase in new user registrations compared to the same period last year. Since January 2024, the company has trained over 2,577 Captains (drivers).

Targeting Egypt’s Growing Ride-Hailing Market

Hala aims to replicate and build on its UAE success in Egypt. The move targets Egypt’s growing ride-hailing market, projected to reach $256 million by 2024 and $527 million by 2029.

While giving his remarks, Khaled Nuseibeh, CEO of Hala, expressed pride in expanding beyond the UAE.

“Our experience and reputation for reliability in the UAE will enable us to deliver first-rate transportation solutions in Egypt. We are dedicated to delivering the same high standard of service excellence and innovation in this new market.”

Yasser Sedky, CEO of MwaslaTech, also highlighted their extensive experience in Egypt’s public transport sector. They plan to integrate e-hailing with street-hailing, using their smart transport expertise for Egyptian commuters.

Hala aims to collaborate with the government and private stakeholders to improve transportation services for Cairo commuters. The company will compete with Bolt, Uber, and inDrive in Egypt. In March 2024, Bolt entered Cairo, and offered a six-month 50% discount and a 15% commission waiver for drivers.

Hala’s expansion into Egypt is a significant step in its growth strategy. The partnership with MwaslaTech is set to enhance mobility solutions for Egyptian customers.
