The African Development Bank (AfDB) has started a key strategy mission in Algiers. This is to prepare the 2025–2030 Country Strategy Paper.

“This mission is a critical step in strengthening the partnership between the African Development Bank and Algeria,” said Mr. Lachaal.
“It will help us jointly identify priority areas for action to support the country on its path toward more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable growth,” he added.
The Bank is meeting different stakeholders. These include government officials, civil society, the private sector, and development partners.
They want to gather ideas and data. This will help shape a strategy that supports Algeria’s goal of reducing its dependence on oil.
Algeria faces many challenges. These include economic, social, and environmental issues that need urgent attention.
AfDB wants to align its support with Algeria’s national goals. It also follows its own “High 5s” and 2024–2033 strategy.
The Bank promises to support job creation and green growth. It also aims to help Algeria achieve the SDGs and Agenda 2063.
As of March 28, 2025, the AfDB’s active projects in Algeria total about $2.28 million. This includes three technical assistance programs.
Multi-sector projects make up 47.3% of the portfolio. Energy projects are 42%, and agriculture covers 10.7%.
This mission is the first step in a long-term strategy. It shows AfDB’s strong commitment to supporting Algeria’s future.
