Safaricom has launched a program to train young Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in digital skills to enhance their employability. The initiative aims to promote inclusivity in embracing advancements in the digital world.
The program is currently in its pilot phase. Participants will take part in a 23-week software engineering module at Moringa School. It also includes career mentorship and coaching to help students excel in the IT sector.
“We realise that we cannot leave anyone behind,” said Nyokabi Florence, Chief Human Resources Officer of Safaricom. She added, “Currently, persons with disabilities make up 3.3% of our workforce, and we are keen to grow this number to 3.5% through such re-skilling initiatives.”

Safaricom Builds on Past Success with IT Training
The new initiative follows the 2022 IT Bridge Academy, which also supported young PWDs passionate about IT. That program offered training and hands-on experience in partnership with Sight Savers, NITA, UDPK, and others.
Safaricom’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts ensure inclusivity in every part of the organisation. These efforts attract, retain, and develop employees while also benefiting customers and communities.
The company’s goal is to become Africa’s leading purpose-driven technology company by 2030. The digital skills program reflects this commitment to empowering all.
