Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC has partnered with Vodafone Foundation, USAID, and Amref Health Africa. They are set to launch the KEFETA Project.
The project is backed by a $2.7 million USD investment. It aims to transform youth services in Ethiopia and provide young people with digital skills. Additionally, it will increase their chances for self-employment and career opportunities.
Through the KEFETA Project, the partners are working to build a stronger digital infrastructure in Ethiopia. The initiative will create digital incubation hubs and expand digital literacy programs in primary and secondary schools. By focusing on digital innovation, the project hopes to equip Ethiopian youth with the skills needed for the growing digital economy.
Safaricom will make its “reliable and Fast-Data network” available in these youth centers and incubation hubs.
“We are proud to be the connectivity partner, availing our reliable and Fast-Data network in the youth centers and incubation hubs building the next-generation talent base to meet the demands of Digital Ethiopia,” Safaricom said.

Digital Literacy and Self-Employment as Key Goals
The project will enhance digital literacy programs to support learning in schools and youth centers. These programs aim to strengthen both primary and secondary education by incorporating digital learning materials and resources.
At the same time, the digital incubation hubs will provide young people with space, tools, and mentorship to pursue technology-focused ventures and foster self-employment.
In addition, KEFETA will address the need for tech-savvy skills in Ethiopia’s job market. By empowering youth with these essential skills, the project intends to increase employability among young Ethiopians.
The project leaders expect these initiatives will inspire a generation ready to contribute to Ethiopia’s growing digital economy.
Through increased digital literacy, many young Ethiopians will have improved access to job opportunities and resources that will help them succeed in the modern workforce.
