MCA Announces 2024 Women in Resources Award Winners

The 2024 Women in Resources National Awards have celebrated outstanding women making waves in Australia’s resource industry.

The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) revealed the winners in Canberra this week, showcasing remarkable contributions to diversity and leadership.

Ashara Moore, a PhD student at Queensland University of Technology, won the national award after previously securing Queensland’s Exceptional Young Woman in Resources title earlier this year.

Dr. Evelyn Ng, group manager of materials at Callidus Process Solutions, took home the Maptek Technological Innovation Award for her breakthroughs in engineering.

Promoting Diversity and Innovation in Resources

Another standout, Josie Fourie, head of Woodside Energy’s global wells and seismic group, received the Dyno Nobel Exceptional Woman in Australian Resources award. The industry recognizes Fourie for leading the way in offshore drilling, a field traditionally dominated by men.

The awards also recognized workplace support manager Kanae Dyas for her contributions to diversity at Anglo American.

Nadine Hill from Evolution Mining won the Outstanding Tradeswoman/Operator/Technician Award. Major mining services group Thiess was recognized for its Indigenous trainee employment program.

MCA Shining a Light on Exceptional Women

The event, supported by the Women in Mining Network, saw 29 women and four organizations nominated across six categories.

Rebecca Tomkinson, CEO of the WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy, highlighted the winners as examples of women leading innovation in the resource industry. She emphasized the importance of diversity and the continuing effort to boost female participation at all levels of the sector.

The event also serves as inspiration for future leaders. Moore, who initially opposed the mining industry, now aims to change how the industry manages tailings waste through her PhD research.

Ng, with five continents of experience, continues to push boundaries in engineering at Callidus. This year’s awards underline the vital role women play in driving the resource industry forward.
