Raxio Group has officially opened a new state-of-the-art data centre in Kinshasa, DRC. This marks a major milestone in the country’s digital development. The Raxio DRC1 facility, accredited as a Tier III data centre by the Uptime Institute, is the largest in the DRC.
Located in Limete, southeast of Kinshasa, the facility spans 1,542 square meters and can house up to 400 racks. It delivers 1.5MW of IT power, ensuring reliable and consistent operations.
The $30 million project is part of the nation’s Plan National du Numérique. The goal is to drive digital inclusion, boost private sector growth, and transform public services through digitalization.

Key Facility for Digital Growth
Raxio DRC1 was completed quickly, with construction beginning in early 2023. This rapid progress highlights Raxio’s expertise in developing data centres in Africa and the government’s support for national projects.
Robert Mullins, CEO of Raxio Group, expressed pride in the accomplishment. He emphasized the significance of the facility for the DRC’s digital landscape.
“The DRC is one of Africa’s largest and fastest-growing markets,” Mullins said. “Our facility provides the infrastructure needed to support the digital economy and enhance connectivity.”
Raxio Group plans to expand further in the DRC, adding more capacity and facilities in the future. This new data centre reflects their confidence in the DRC’s potential and their commitment to sustainable digital growth across Africa.
Expanding Digital Infrastructure in Africa
Raxio has been expanding its footprint across Africa, responding to the growing demand for data infrastructure. Since opening its first data centre in Uganda in 2021, Raxio has launched facilities in Ethiopia, Mozambique, and now the DRC.
The DRC data centre aligns with the government’s Plan National du Numérique, which aims to use digitalization as a catalyst for economic growth, competitiveness, and social inclusion.
The provision of data centres is a key part of this plan. They improve the digital landscape by reducing latency and providing a reliable backbone for mobile and internet connectivity.
Yannick Sukakumu, General Manager of Raxio DRC, highlighted the government’s role in enabling the project. “Closing sub-Saharan Africa’s connectivity gap is no longer a pipe dream – it is happening now,” Sukakumu said. He expressed pride in being part of this transformative project and looked forward to welcoming customers to the facility.
